Installing an indicator in MT5

Getting custom indicators onto the chart — the workflow is almost identical to the EA, just a different folder.

Indicators work in MT5 almost exactly like EAs — only the target folder is different. Here's the quick procedure:

1

Load the indicator file from the Library

Log in, go to the Library, click Download on the relevant product. You get a .ex5 or .mq5file.

2

Open the MT5 data folder

In MT5: File → Open Data Folder. In the Explorer window: MQL5 → Indicators. This is where all indicators are.

3

Copy the file into the Indicators folder

Copy the .ex5/.mq5 in MQL5/Indicators/. If the indicator has additional library files (.mqh) they belong in MQL5/Include/.

4

For .mq5: compile

Only if you have the source code: F4 in MT5 → MetaEditor opens → open the file → F7 (Compile). With "0 errors" this produces a .ex5.

5

Refresh the Navigator & drag onto the chart

In MT5: View → Navigator. Under "Custom Indicators" right-click → "Refresh". You'll now find the indicator there. Drag and drop it onto the desired chart, check the parameters, OK.

Several indicators on one chart: You can stack as many indicators as you like. Right-click the chart → "Indicator List" shows all active ones; you can disable them or change the order.
